Both Sandon School and Ambergate Sports College have been working on their Eco Schools Projects since September 2017.
As part of the journey both schools have worked through the Bronze Award, Silver Award and now both hold the Green Flag Award.
There are seven steps involved in the journey. We were required to set up an Eco Committee before holding an environmental review of our schools to investigate our environmental performance. This led to the creation of an action plan covering three topics. The topics to choose from are biodiversity, energy, global citizenship, healthy living, litter, marine, school grounds, transport, waste and water. Our action plans were centred around embedding Eco themes in our curriculum and every day routines, and spreading awareness through our Eco Committees and Eco Clubs at lunch times. Each school also holds an Eco Day each year in March where the whole school participate in themed activities based on our chosen topics. Both schools also have their own Eco Code which was written by the students themselves.
Sandon School achieved their Green Flag Award in June 2018, and renewed the application in June 2020. Ambergate Sports College achieved their Green Flag status in May 2019 and this is due for renewal in May 2021.
