Grantham Museum Visit

Ambergate pupil visiting Grantham Museum

A group of upper school pupils had an amazing time visiting the museum in Grantham this week to learn about the importance of volunteers in our local community. If it weren’t for volunteers, the museum probably wouldn’t be open.

The pupils were really interested in all the information relating to the history of Grantham, especially about the 1st female Police officer and Barnes Wallis and his Bouncing bomb.

The pupils enjoyed looking at the exhibits which included hand cuffs and truncheons and a full size model of the bomb! The old type writer and war phone were also a hit with the children.

They were then taken back in time to a mockup of a 1970s living room complete with retro wallpaper and television set. The pupils struggled to believe that we watched TV’s in black & white and only had 3 channels!

The old chemist and shop with half pennies and pennies was very interesting and some of the pupils tried their hand at being a shop keeper.
On the way out there was a section of clothes and hats from across the years just waiting to be tried on too!

Special thanks to Nick Jones and Lynn Robinson for making the afternoon so special. The museum is open for visitors Thursday – Saturday, well worth a visit.
